Honey Buttermilk Bread

Prep Time 2hrs 30mins       Cook Time 25-30mins

Makes Two Loafs

Ingredients
  • 1 envelope or 1 tbsp of yeast
  • Pinch of powdered ginger
  • 2 tsp white sugar
  • 1/4 warm water (105F)
  • 2 cups buttermilk (105F)
  • 1/3 pure raw honey
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3/4 tsp baking soda
  • 6 cups bread flour
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 2 Tbsp unsalted butter melted to place on tops after cooked.
Instructions
  1. ​In a bowl mix yeast, ginger, sugar, and the warm water let set 5 mins
  2. Add buttermilk, honey, salt, and baking powder to the yeast mixture
  3. Add 3 cups of flour and mix untill smooth, right around 5 mins in your stand mixer on low.
  4. Pour the melted butter onto the mixture countinue to mix on low
  5. Add the rest of flour little by little while still mixing on low
  6. Once the mixture pulls away from the sides of the bowl. Remove dough and place on a lightly floured surface.  Knead untill elastic and smooth.  Dont over work the dough.
  7. Place dough in a greased bowl, turn dough over so it is lightly coated in grease on both sides.place a clean diah cloth over the bowl.
  8. Allow the dough to aise for 1hr 30mins or untill doubled in size.
  9. Punch down the dough and place in two greesed bread pans lightly greese tops again.
  10. Cover, and let rise for an additional 45mins, or until dough is at the top of pan.
  11. Preheat Oven to 400F
  12. Make for 25-30mins, you may want to cover bread half way threw to keep from browning to much.
  13. Remove from oven and brush on a little melted butter
  14. Cool for 10mins then remove from pans and place on cooling rack. 
Add some butter and homemade jelly, enjoy your hard work.
